Mold remediation refers to the cleaning up and disinfecting mold-contaminated areas, such as within a home. The remediation process involves the use of specialized equipment to remove all mold growth and prevent future growth.
What can you expect during mold remediation?
Each mold problem is different and requires a different solution. However, the mold remediation process is the same.
- Water plumbing system repair. This will prevent the growth and spread of mold spores.
- Isolation of the mold containment area. This involves sealing the affected area from all other areas of the house. All windows and doors must be closed. All other openings can be sealed with six-millimeter polyethylene sheeting. Duct tapes seal the seams of the sheeting.
- Control airborne spores. Misting the affected areas is one way to do this.
- Moldy surfaces should be vacuumed. The wet/dry vacuum should be kept outside while vacuuming.
- Mold removal and cleaning. To reduce the chance of mold spores being dispersed in the air, all mold-contaminated materials should be disposed of in plastic bags. All non-porous materials must be cleaned thoroughly.
- Spraying and scrubbing unmovable structures. All mold-contaminated surfaces will be scrubbed by professionals using a damp cloth and a detergent solution. This will ensure that all mold is removed.
- Disinfecting and sealing surfaces. The areas that have been cleaned are then disinfected with the appropriate products and deodorizing agent to kill any remaining mold.
- Drying wet materials To make sure that no moisture remains, dry all the cleaned materials. Expert mold removal companies can speed up the process by using fans, dehumidifiers, and/or increasing the indoor temperature.
- Rebuild and replace. All materials damaged previously are repaired or replaced.
What is generally the time frame?
The time it takes to complete the entire mold remediation project will vary depending on many factors. These factors include the amount of mold in the house, where it is growing and what type of mold-contamination material. The process can take anywhere from one to five working days.
