Today we are talking about lead today and when should lead be tested? When’s lead a concern? Older homes built pre 1978, older buildings pre-1978, need to and must be tested for lead.
According to who? The EPA, that’s who. The EPA has an RRP rule. That’s the renovation repair and paint rule. According to that rule, there’s certain protocols that need to be handled, mostly containment and how you’re preventing the spread of the lead from getting into areas where it could harm.
This is especially important around younger children. It’s a really big problem Kids are eating paint chips and things of that nature. But testing for lead is fairly easy. It’s usually under $500. You also want to test for asbestos if you’re gonna be doing any kind of renovation or repair work on your home, regardless what year it is. But lead, the key date for lead is 1978 or pre-1978.
